The Indian Navy and Hellenic Navy concluded their first bilateral maritime exercise in the Mediterranean Sea, enhancing defence cooperation and maritime security.
The exercise was conducted in two phases:
• Harbour phase (Sept 13–17, Salamis Naval Base): Cross-deck visits, crew interactions, and a pre-sail conference aboard the Hellenic Navy’s HS Themistokles. A cultural exchange onboard INS Trikand involved India’s Ambassador to Greece, H.E. Rudrendra Tandon, and senior Hellenic Navy officers. The Indian crew also visited the Acropolis.
• Sea phase (Sept 17–18): Advanced operations including night VBSS drills, replenishment-at-sea, joint anti-submarine warfare, coordinated gun firing, and cross-deck helicopter exercises.
The exercise reinforced professional ties, shared best practices, and highlighted the navies’ commitment to freedom of navigation. INS Trikand remains deployed in the Mediterranean.
