President Masoud Pezeshkian said on Saturday (Sep. 20) that Iran can overcome any return of sanctions through the U.N. Security Council’s “snapback” mechanism. His comments followed a Security Council vote on Friday, which did not permanently lift sanctions after Britain, France, and Germany initiated a 30-day process citing Tehran’s alleged breaches of the 2015 nuclear deal.

• Nuclear facilities: Pezeshkian referenced Natanz and Fordow, sites previously targeted by U.S. and Israeli operations.

• Sanctions details: The snapback could reimpose an arms embargo, uranium enrichment limits, missile activity bans, asset freezes, and travel restrictions.

• IAEA cooperation: Iran’s Supreme National Security Council warned it may suspend engagement with the International Atomic Energy Agency if sanctions return.

Iran maintains it has no intention of developing nuclear weapons, emphasising resilience and strategic autonomy.
