Prime Minister Keir Starmer has confirmed that the UK now formally recognises a Palestinian state. The announcement, made via social media, follows similar steps by Canada and Australia. Canada became the first G7 country to make the move.

David Lammy, Deputy PM and Foreign Secretary, defended the decision, saying on the BBC that “now is the time to stand up for a two-state solution.”

Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu strongly opposes recognition, arguing it rewards Hamas and complicates hostage negotiations. Families of hostages still held in Gaza voiced similar concerns, writing in an open letter to Starmer that the move may hinder efforts to bring loved ones home.

Meanwhile, the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) continue their ground offensive in Gaza City, reporting the interception of two projectiles launched from the north of the Strip.
