Kim Jong Un has indicated readiness to resume dialogue with US President Donald Trump, provided Washington abandons its demand for North Korea to give up nuclear weapons. Speaking to the Supreme People’s Assembly, Kim said Pyongyang “will never lay down” its arsenal.

The remarks follow Kim’s recent meetings with Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin, highlighting closer ties with Beijing and Moscow. Analysts note that North Korea is less isolated than during Trump’s first term, complicating negotiations.

Trump has expressed interest in meeting Kim, with speculation around a possible encounter during his upcoming visit to South Korea for the APEC summit. Previous talks collapsed in 2019 without agreement.

South Korean President Lee Jae-myung has called for phased denuclearisation, but Kim dismissed dialogue with Seoul. Analysts suggest that while both sides show interest, conditions remain challenging for a breakthrough.
