President Donald Trump has confirmed that funds from tariffs will be redirected to support US farmers affected by trade policies. Speaking at the White House, he said the aid will provide temporary relief while tariffs begin benefiting domestic producers.

Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins added that financial assistance could be distributed “in the next couple of weeks.”

“We’re going to take some of that tariff money that we’ve made, we’re going to give it to our farmers, who are — for a little while — going to be hurt until it kicks in, the tariffs kick in to their benefit,” Trump said Thursday (Sep. 25) at the White House.

Farmers, particularly in communities that largely supported Trump in 2024, have faced declining export markets and rising costs for seeds, fertiliser, and equipment. China’s retaliatory tariffs have prevented shipments of US soybeans, increasing pressure on producers.

Legal uncertainties may affect the programme, as courts have previously challenged the use of emergency powers for tariff revenue, potentially requiring the government to repay billions. Despite risks, many in the agriculture sector view the aid as necessary to stabilise revenues.
