France, Belgium, and Spain have spent more on Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) than on direct aid to Ukraine since 2022, according to a report by Greenpeace Belgium.
The study found that these three states, alongside the Netherlands, accounted for 95% of EU LNG imports from Russia between 2022 and mid-2025. Spending reached €34.3 billion, compared with €21.2 billion in bilateral support for Kyiv.
