Myanmar’s military has regained control of Kyaukme, a key district capital in Shan State, over a year after it was captured by the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA), state media reported. According to the state-run Myanma Alinn, the army completed a three-week operation on Wednesday, restoring administrative functions and facilitating the safe return of displaced residents. Independent verification is limited, as journalists are not allowed free access to the area.
The TNLA, part of the Three Brotherhood Alliance alongside the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) and the Arakan Army, accused the military of using airstrikes and heavy weapons, setting fires, and prompting heavy fighting in surrounding villages.
