Kosovo has become the first country to signal willingness to host the UK’s proposed “return hubs” for asylum seekers whose claims have been refused.

Prime Minister Albin Kurti confirmed talks with UK officials, saying Pristina views cooperation as a “friendly and political duty.”

• Kurti said Kosovo seeks security support from the UK in return, through equipment or joint projects.

• The plan would see rejected asylum seekers sent to third-country processing centres once appeals are exhausted.

• Other Balkan leaders have distanced themselves: Bosnia and Herzegovina declined participation, while Montenegro said it would negotiate only with major UK investment.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer said Wednesday’s (Oct. 22) Western Balkans Summit in London aims to strengthen cooperation against illegal migration, including a joint taskforce and deployment of UK drones and scanners at checkpoints.
