Colombian President Gustavo Petro has ordered an immediate suspension of intelligence cooperation with United States security agencies, citing ongoing US missile strikes on vessels in the Caribbean Sea.
Petro announced on X that the measure will remain in place “as long as the missile attacks on boats continue.” The Trump administration has claimed the strikes target drug-trafficking vessels, though they have reportedly killed at least 75 people, including citizens from Venezuela, Ecuador, Colombia, and Trinidad and Tobago.
The move follows months of tensions between Bogotá and Washington, amid US sanctions on Petro and key officials and growing speculation of expanded US military action in the region.
