Ukraine has agreed a new gas import arrangement with Greece to strengthen winter energy security, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Sunday (Nov 16). He noted that Kyiv is working to secure nearly €2 billion to offset losses in domestic production following continued Russian airstrikes.
Zelenskyy highlighted support from European partners and ongoing US coordination, adding that Ukraine is expanding winter supply routes through Poland and pursuing long-term gas contracts with Azerbaijan.
Overnight, authorities reported widespread airstrikes across multiple regions. Ukraine’s air force said it downed 139 of 176 drones launched by Russia, while energy facilities in Odesa were damaged. Russia’s Defence Ministry claimed its forces intercepted 57 Ukrainian drones over seven regions.
Zelenskyy also announced a forthcoming “historic” defence agreement with France to enhance combat aviation and air defence, alongside visits to Spain. He further signalled momentum towards renewed prisoner exchanges, with Rustem Umerov confirming progress in talks mediated by Türkiye and the UAE.
