South Africa’s Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Ronald Lamola, criticised what he called “the DEI views of MAGA”, describing them as an ideological stance designed to “feed the agenda of white supremacy”.
Speaking at the Bloomberg Africa Business Summit on 18 November, he argued that the Trump administration’s approach, including its refugee offer to Afrikaners, does not align with the Geneva Convention’s criteria for refugee status.
Lamola’s comments came shortly before the G20 Summit in South Africa (22–23 November), which the United States boycotted after President Donald Trump accused Pretoria of discriminating against its white minority and repeatedly made unsubstantiated claims of a “genocide” of white farmers.
South African officials, including President Cyril Ramaphosa, have rejected these allegations, stressing that crime affects all communities and that no political party in the country supports genocide claims.
