Mexico has announced plans to develop what the government says will be Latin America’s most powerful supercomputer, aimed at boosting national capacity in artificial intelligence, data processing, and high-performance computing.
The system, named “Coatlicue” after the Mexica earth goddess, was outlined by José Merino, head of the Telecommunications and Digital Transformation Agency, who said it would be seven times more powerful than Brazil’s current regional leader.
President Claudia Sheinbaum said the project’s location has not yet been confirmed, but construction is expected to begin next year. She described the initiative as a major step towards expanding Mexico’s technological capabilities.
