Yemen’s Southern Transitional Council (STC) advanced across Hadramout this week, escalating tensions with forces loyal to the internationally recognised government and tribal groups aligned with Saudi Arabia. The clashes highlighted widening strategic differences between Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, which backs the separatists.
The STC said its operation aimed to “restore stability” in Wadi Hadramout and accused rivals of enabling extremist activity and smuggling networks linked to the Houthi movement.

• STC forces captured Seiyun, its airport, government sites and surrounding districts.

Fighting eased after a Saudi delegation led by Gen. Mohammed Obaid al-Qahtani brokered a de-escalation agreement with Governor Salem Ahmed al-Khanbashi and tribal leaders.
