India has signed a comprehensive economic partnership agreement with Oman, strengthening its free trade agreement (FTA) strategy amid rising global trade uncertainty.
The deal was signed in Muscat in the presence of Narendra Modi and Sultan Haitham bin Tarik. It is India’s second FTA in six months, following an agreement with the United Kingdom in May 2025.

• Zero-duty access for Indian goods on 98.08% of Oman’s tariff lines
• Indian tariff liberalisation on 77.79% of lines, covering ~95% of imports from Oman
• Priority sectors: engineering goods, textiles, pharmaceuticals, agriculture
India is accelerating FTA talks with the European Union, New Zealand and Chile, as exporters face pressure from 50% U.S. import tariffs introduced in August.
Trade Secretary Rajesh Agarwal said progress across multiple negotiations remains positive, though protecting domestic industries remains a key challenge.
