South Korean President Lee Jae-myung and Chinese President Xi Jinping have agreed to open a “new phase” in bilateral relations, following their summit in Beijing — Lee’s first state visit to China since taking office in June 2025.
Lee said the meeting should make 2026 “the first year of full-scale restoration” of South Korea–China relations, while Xi urged both sides to make “correct strategic choices” amid a more complex international environment.
The talks took place against heightened regional tensions, including fresh North Korean ballistic missile launches and growing disagreement over Taiwan.

• 15 intergovernmental agreements signed on technology, transport and intellectual property.
• Nine corporate cooperation deals, involving firms including Alibaba International, Lenovo, and Shinsegae.
