Ugandans go to the polls on Thursday 15 January 2026 in a high-stakes election pitting long-serving President Yoweri Museveni against opposition challenger Bobi Wine.

Museveni, 81, in power since 1986 and leader of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), is seeking a seventh consecutive term. His main rival, Bobi Wine — real name Robert Kyagulanyi — leads the National Unity Platform (NUP) and is campaigning on reform, jobs and governance.

The vote takes place amid economic pressures, high youth unemployment, and concerns over civil liberties and electoral integrity.
