In a recent interview, Danish MP Rasmus Jarlov, chair of Denmark’s Defence Committee, criticised US President Donald Trump’s repeated claims that Russia and China pose a security threat to Greenland and that the United States should assert control over the autonomous Danish territory.

Jarlov described Trump’s assertions of foreign threats as unfounded, noting both countries lack significant presence or activity on the island, and said the US already has extensive military access under existing agreements. He characterised any attempt to claim Greenland as “the most illegitimate land claim in modern history” and warned that conflict between allies would be “the dumbest war in history.”

Jarlov’s remarks align with broader Nordic rebuttals of Trump’s narrative and follow unified statements from Greenlandic party leaders rejecting US control and reaffirming self-determination. Denmark and Greenland maintain Greenland is not for sale and any future is for its people to decide.
