President Xi Jinping has reaffirmed that China’s anti-corruption campaign remains a central political priority, warning the fight is “severe and complex” and must not be lost.
Speaking at the opening of a three-day plenary of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI), China’s top watchdog, Xi called for an “unwavering high-pressure stance” against graft across the Communist Party and state institutions.
Key developments:
• 65 senior officials (“tigers”) were investigated last year, up from 58 in 2024, according to the CCDI.
• Cases included Yi Huiman, former head of the securities regulator, Liu Shaoyong, former China Eastern Airlines chairman, and senior military figures including General He Weidong.
• The campaign now targets state firms, universities, the military, local officials (“flies”), and overseas fugitives.
State media said the focus is shifting toward preventing misconduct before it escalates into corruption.
