Spain’s Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, has warned that any US use of force to seize Greenland would undermine Western unity and benefit Moscow.
In an interview with La Vanguardia, Sánchez said: “An invasion of Greenland by the US administration would make Putin the happiest man in the world. Why? Because it would legitimise his invasion and unilateral actions questioning Ukraine’s territory.”
“I fear that if such an invasion of Greenland by the United States were to take place, it would be the death knell for NATO,” Sánchez added.
The comments follow renewed pressure from US President Donald Trump, who has linked trade measures to Greenland’s status.
