Protesters gathered in Davos ahead of the annual World Economic Forum as Oxfam released a report warning that global billionaire wealth reached a record level in 2025.

Demonstrators criticised elite decision-making at the forum. Nathalie Ruoss, of the Swiss Young Socialists, said policies shaped in Davos affect people worldwide without democratic accountability.

Key findings from Oxfam

• Global billionaire wealth rose 16.2% in 2025 to $18.3 trillion

• The world now has more than 3,000 billionaires, the highest on record

• The 12 richest individuals hold more wealth than the poorest half of humanity

Oxfam said policies under Donald Trump have favoured deregulation and weakened tax coordination. Amitabh Behar warned the widening wealth gap poses “highly dangerous” political risks.
