US President Donald Trump has reiterated his demand for the United States to take control of Greenland, arguing it is necessary for US national security, as European leaders continue to reject the proposal.
Speaking to reporters ahead of his visit to Davis for this year WEF meeting, Trump questioned Denmark’s ability to defend the territory and dismissed Copenhagen’s historical claim to sovereignty. In a Truth Social post Trump revealed what appeared to be private messages from Emmanuel Macron, in which the French leader expressed support on Syria and Iran but confusion over Greenland, and proposed talks in Paris after Davos.
Trump said on Monday (19 January) evening he was “100% committed” to imposing tariffs on European allies, including the United Kingdom, to force negotiations over Greenland.
