Russia’s Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev said Moscow’s relationship with Cuba is strengthening despite a “turbulent geopolitical situation,” during an official visit to Havana.
According to Interior Ministry spokesperson Irina Volk, Kolokoltsev made the remarks in talks with Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel and later met his Cuban counterpart Lázaro Alberto Álvarez Casas.
“The Russian minister expressed the opinion that, despite the current turbulent geopolitical situation, ties between Russia and Cuba are becoming increasingly stronger and more reliable,” Volk said.
Kolokoltsev also:
• Offered condolences over Cuban military and police deaths linked to the US operation in Venezuela, which captured President Nicolás Maduro and his wife
• Reiterated Russia’s opposition to foreign interference
• Said Cuba’s 2025 accession as a partner state to BRICS has boosted multilateral coordination
Last week, Russian President Vladimir Putin reaffirmed solidarity with Cuba’s sovereignty. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump cited Cuba as a possible future target, comments
Havana rejected amid ongoing economic pressure.
