The first face-to-face talks involving Russian, Ukrainian and U.S. officials ended on a cautiously positive note, with Ukraine signalling potential momentum toward ending the war.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said discussions held over two days in Abu Dhabi were “constructive” and indicated that further meetings could take place as early as next week.

Key developments discussed included:

• A revised 20-point draft peace plan, initially negotiated in 2025 between the Donald Trump administration and Russia

• A potential U.S. role in monitoring and oversight of a future settlement

• Post-war security guarantees, reconstruction, and prisoner exchanges

Russia was represented by senior military intelligence officials, while Ukraine sent Kyrylo Budanov. The U.S. delegation included Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff.

Despite diplomatic movement, fighting continued, with Russian missile and drone strikes reported across Ukraine. Deep divisions remain over territory and NATO troop deployments, underscoring the fragility of progress.
