Amazon has confirmed a further 16,000 corporate job cuts, bringing total reductions to around 30,000 roles since October 2025, as the company continues a wide-ranging restructuring drive in 2026.

The move follows earlier reporting that CEO Andy Jassy is pushing to streamline management, cut bureaucracy and exit underperforming businesses. Amazon has also announced the closure of its remaining Fresh grocery stores, Go outlets, and the discontinuation of its Amazon One biometric payment system.

Key points

• The cuts affect nearly 10% of Amazon’s corporate workforce, its largest reduction to date

• Beth Galetti, Chief People Officer, said the aim is to “reduce layers” and improve accountability

• Further adjustments remain possible across teams

• Impacted units reportedly include AWS, Alexa, Prime Video, devices, advertising and logistics

Amazon has cited over-hiring during the pandemic and growing AI-driven automation as key pressures reshaping its workforce.
