Iran has reiterated that it remains open to diplomacy with the United States, while warning that negotiations cannot proceed under military pressure.
Speaking alongside his counterpart Hakan Fidan in Türkiye, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran was prepared for “fair and equitable” talks but would respond forcefully to any attack. He stressed that Iran’s missile and defence capabilities would “never” be part of negotiations.
Araghchi warned that direct US military intervention would fundamentally alter the conflict’s trajectory and could escalate beyond a bilateral confrontation, urging Washington to act with “common sense and logic”.
Araghchi added that while Iran is ready for negotiations, it is also prepared for warfare, claiming Iran’s military readiness now exceeds that seen during earlier clashes in June 2025.
His remarks come as US President Donald Trump said Iran “wants to make a deal” amid a significant US naval build-up in the Gulf. Trump warned that time was “running out” for negotiations over Iran’s nuclear programme, while declining to set a deadline or rule out military action.
