Tunisia has extended its nationwide state of emergency until the end of 2026, according to a new presidential decree.

The extension was announced by President Kais Saied and published in the Official Gazette of the Tunisian Republic (JORT). The decree states that the emergency measures will apply from 31 January to 31 December 2026.

Under Tunisian emergency law, authorities are granted expanded powers, including:

• House arrest without prior judicial approval

• Bans on public meetings and assemblies

• Curfews and movement restrictions

• Monitoring and censorship of media and press

Tunisia first imposed the state of emergency in November 2015, following a deadly attack on a bus carrying presidential guards. The measures have remained in place through successive renewals for more than a decade.
