The United States Department of State has approved new arms sales to Israel worth $6.67 billion, including 30 Apache attack helicopters and 3,250 light tactical vehicles.

The approvals were notified to Congress on Friday (30 January) as regional tensions rise, including speculation over possible U.S. military action against Iran. The announcement also comes as Donald Trump advances a Gaza ceasefire and reconstruction proposal following two years of war.

Key components of the package include:

• $3.8bn for Apache helicopters equipped with rockets and advanced targeting systems

• $1.98bn for light tactical vehicles to support Israel Defense Forces logistics

• $740m for power packs for armoured personnel carriers in service since 2008

• $150m for additional light utility helicopters

Washington said the sales would not alter the regional military balance and reaffirmed its commitment to Israel’s security.
