Ukraine and Russia have begun a second day of US-brokered negotiations in Abu Dhabi, aimed at ending Europe’s most destructive conflict since the Second World War.

Rustem Umerov, Ukraine’s chief negotiator, described initial discussions as “meaningful and productive,” focusing on practical solutions. Kirill Dmitriev, envoy to Russian President Vladimir Putin, reported “positive movement forward” and cited efforts to improve U.S.–Russia economic cooperation.

Key developments:

• Talks include trilateral consultations and joint coordination sessions.

• The Trump administration is urging both sides to reach a compromise.

• Russia demands Ukraine withdraw from the entire Donetsk region.

• Disputes remain over control of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.

• Russia occupies roughly 20% of Ukrainian territory, including Crimea and parts of Donbas.
