The United States and Russia have agreed to restore high-level military dialogue following talks in Abu Dhabi, linked to discussions on the Ukraine war.
According to US European Command, the renewed engagement will provide consistent military-to-military communication to support efforts towards lasting peace and reduce escalation risks. The move reflects a diplomatic shift between the two nuclear powers and aligns with US President Donald Trump’s stated aim of improving bilateral relations.
Military communication channels were suspended in 2021, shortly before the Russia-Ukraine war. Limited contact has continued amid incidents involving Russian aircraft near NATO airspace and US drones operating over Syria and the Black Sea.
