UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan met Friedrich Merz, Chancellor of Germany, in Abu Dhabi on Friday (6 February) to strengthen bilateral relations and expand cooperation across key strategic sectors.

Talks at Qasr Al Shati focused on deepening partnerships in energy security, advanced technology, and innovation, while both leaders stressed the importance of dialogue and diplomacy in maintaining regional and global stability.

Several cooperation agreements were announced, highlighting growing UAE–Germany economic and industrial ties.

Key developments:

• ADNOC and RWE signed an MoU covering gas and liquefied natural gas (LNG) value chains, exchanged by Dr Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber and Dr Markus Krebber.

• Masdar and RWE agreed to cooperate on battery energy storage systems.

• TA’ZIZ, Fertiglobe, and Covestro signed a chemicals sector partnership, involving Dr Markus Steilemann.

• The UAE Pro League and Bundesliga International agreed to expand sports cooperation.

The visit underscores expanding UAE–Germany cooperation in energy transition, industrial development, and international diplomacy.
