The United States will reduce its reciprocal tariff on Bangladesh to 19%, the White House confirmed, marking another adjustment to bilateral trade arrangements.

President Donald Trump approved the tariff reduction, following earlier cuts from 37% to 20%. The agreement introduces a mechanism allowing selected Bangladeshi textile and apparel products to receive full tariff exemptions.

According to interim Bangladesh leader Muhammad Yunus, the exemption applies to goods manufactured using US-produced cotton and man-made fibres, supporting Bangladesh’s export-driven apparel sector.

Key developments:

• Bangladesh will grant preferential access to US industrial and agricultural goods, including chemicals, medical devices, auto parts, energy and farm products.

• Dhaka agreed to address non-tariff barriers, including accepting US-approved vehicles and pharmaceuticals.

• Bangladesh committed to strengthening environmental, labour and intellectual property protections.

• The White House expects future deals, including aircraft procurement, $3.5 billion in US agricultural purchases, and $15 billion in energy imports over 15 years.

The agreement follows recent US trade deals with India and Argentina, signalling continued expansion of Washington’s global trade partnerships.
