Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov welcomed Burkina Faso Foreign Minister Karamoko Traoré to Moscow on Thursday (12 February) for a high-level  meeting aimed at strengthening bilateral relations.

• Signing of foundational agreements on Russia–Burkina Faso cooperation.

• Launch of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation, co-chaired by Russian Energy Minister Sergey Tsivilev, expected to begin operations in 2026.

• Expanded collaboration in defence, military-technical support, and counter-terrorism initiatives across the Sahel.

• Continued cooperation at the United Nations, including Burkina Faso’s support for Russian proposals on international stability and a measured stance on the Ukraine crisis.

• Progress on the Russia-Sahel Alliance, with Burkina Faso holding the Alliance presidency and hosting upcoming ministerial sessions.

• Plans to strengthen joint communication strategies to counter Western narratives and promote sovereign foreign policy perspectives.
