California Governor Gavin Newsom has signed a clean energy agreement with the United Kingdom during talks in London, reinforcing transatlantic climate cooperation despite policy shifts under Donald Trump.

The memorandum of understanding strengthens collaboration between California and the UK on achieving net zero emissions targets.

Key developments include:

• Joint work on clean energy technologies, including offshore wind power.

• Expanded market access in California for UK energy firms such as Octopus Energy.

• Strengthened research cooperation and continued support for the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

Newsom said California would continue turning “innovation and ambition into climate action,” while Miliband highlighted investment and economic opportunities for UK businesses.
