Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps launched naval drills in the Strait of Hormuz, highlighting escalating regional tensions before renewed talks with Washington.

The exercises, overseen by Major General Mohammad Pakpour, aim to test operational readiness amid threats from Donald Trump, who recently deployed additional US naval forces.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said the manoeuvres were designed to assess the “operational preparedness” of its naval units in response to “potential military and security threats” in the strait.

Iran maintains the nuclear programme is the sole negotiation focus while emphasising control over one of the world’s busiest oil transit routes.
