Badr Abdelatty, Egypt’s Foreign Minister, and Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Sewilam met Kenyan President William Ruto during an official visit to Kenya to expand strategic cooperation across water management, investment, security and regional stability.

Abdelatty delivered a message from Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, highlighting strengthened bilateral relations following the 2025 Cairo Declaration between Egypt and Kenya. Both sides aim to convene the eighth Egyptian–Kenyan Joint Committee in Cairo later in 2026.

Key developments:

• Egypt proposed a $100m financing mechanism supporting dam feasibility studies in southern Nile Basin countries.

• Talks focused on defence, counter-terrorism, renewable energy, pharmaceuticals and infrastructure investment.

• Egypt reaffirmed opposition to unilateral Nile water measures, backing consensus-based cooperation and international water law.

• Cairo pledged technical support for groundwater drilling, irrigation modernisation and climate resilience.

President Ruto welcomed Egypt’s regional stabilisation role and endorsed deeper bilateral cooperation.
