Iran–US nuclear talks resumed in Geneva as Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei warned that attempts by the United States to remove Iran’s clerical government would fail. Tehran reiterated that negotiations must focus solely on nuclear activity and sanctions relief, rejecting discussions on missile capabilities and uranium enrichment limits.

“The US President says their army is the world’s strongest, but the strongest army in the world can sometimes be slapped so hard it cannot get up,” he said, in comments published by Iranian media.

Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said both sides agreed on preliminary “guiding principles” during Oman-mediated talks but stressed a final nuclear agreement remains uncertain. Oil markets briefly stabilised after his remarks reduced fears of disruption near the Strait of Hormuz.

US President Donald Trump warned Tehran could face military consequences if diplomacy fails, referencing previous joint US and Israel strikes on nuclear facilities. Iran maintains its programme is peaceful and continues engagement with the International Atomic Energy Agency.
