Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has been arrested at Sandringham as part of a Thames Valley Police investigation into alleged misconduct in public office, following renewed scrutiny over his links to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

The arrest — the first of a member of the British royal family in modern times — prompted King Charles to issue a statement expressing his “deepest concern” about his brother’s alleged misconduct in public office while pledging his own co-operation with the investigation.

Key developments:

• Investigation opened into suspected misconduct in public office.

• Police assessing information relating to alleged trafficking in 2010.

• Arrest follows document releases by the US Department of Justice.

• King Charles III pledged “full and wholehearted support and co-operation”, stating “the law must take its course”.

Mountbatten-Windsor, who was stripped of his “prince” title in 2025, denies any financial or sexual wrongdoing.
