India and Israel have elevated bilateral ties to a special strategic partnership, agreeing to jointly develop and manufacture weapons through technology transfer.
The decision followed talks in Jerusalem between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, focused on defence cooperation, trade, emerging technologies and regional security, including the India–Middle East–Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC).
Key developments:
• Agreements across defence, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, agriculture, space and critical minerals.
• Plans to conclude a bilateral free trade agreement (FTA), with the next round of talks scheduled in May 2026 in Israel.
• MoU linking India’s UPI system (via NPCI) with Israel’s Masav, and a letter of intent for a cyber centre of excellence in India.
• Pacts on commercial arbitration and financial regulation between IFSCA and the Israel Securities Authority.
At a joint briefing, Modi said the move reflected “the aspirations of both nations”, while reiterating India’s support for peace in Gaza. Netanyahu described the visit as “extraordinarily productive”.
