In a recent interview with India Today, economist Professor Jeffrey Sachs delivered a searing critique of Western foreign policy, accusing the United States and Israel of orchestrating a “premeditated” conflict to secure regional hegemony.

Sachs argued that the narrative of an imminent threat from Iran is a fabrication, noting that Iran had previously adhered to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) until the agreement was dismantled by the Trump administration and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Labeling the current trajectory a “fantasy” of global control, Sachs warned that the world is on the precipice of World War III.

“The United States government lies for a living,” Sachs stated, further claiming that Israel is “prodding the United States into open war” to establish military dominance in the Middle East.

Since the launch of Operation Epic Fury and Operation Roaring Lion on 28 February 2026, the conflict has escalated into a multi-front regional war. The United States and Israel have conducted over 2,000 strikes targeting Iranian leadership, IRGC facilities, and nuclear sites, resulting in the confirmed deaths of several high-ranking Iranian officials.

In response, Iran has initiated Operation True Promise IV, launching over 500 ballistic missiles and 2,000 drones at Israel and US assets across the Gulf.

The situation remains critical. Iran has effectively closed the Strait of Hormuz, causing global oil prices to surge, while retaliatory strikes have hit civilian infrastructure in the UAE, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia. With Hezbollah opening a second front from Lebanon and NATO intercepting missiles near Türkiye, international observers warn that the window for diplomatic de-escalation is rapidly closing.
