During this week’s Prime Minister’s Questions, Leader of the Opposition Kemi Badenoch challenged Prime Minister Keir Starmer over the government’s military restraint following Iranian drone and missile strikes on British Sovereign Base Areas in Cyprus and Bahrain.

Badenoch criticised the Prime Minister’s refusal to authorise offensive RAF strikes, accusing him of “catching arrows rather than stopping the archer.” She argued that while the United States has targeted launch sites, the UK’s focus on interception is “weak” and stems from a lack of defence investment, claiming Starmer is “prioritising job security over national security.”

Starmer defended his position, stating he would not join a war without a “lawful basis and a viable thought-through plan.” He highlighted that the UK has deployed additional capabilities to Cyprus and authorised the US to use British bases for defensive strikes.
