Canada and Japan have launched a new Comprehensive Strategic Partnership covering defence, energy, trade, critical minerals, and advanced technology.
During a visit to Tokyo on Friday (6 March), Prime Minister Mark Carney met Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae to announce the expanded cooperation, aimed at strengthening economic security, supply chains, and defence collaboration in the Indo-Pacific.

• New Canada–Japan cyber policy dialogue, expanded military exercises, and defence-industry cooperation on AI, autonomous systems, and space security.
• Increased collaboration on LNG, hydrogen, nuclear technology, and carbon-capture projects to strengthen energy security.
