Spain has announced a €1 billion military aid package for Ukraine in 2026, coinciding with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s visit to Madrid. Partially funded by the EU SAFE Program, the aid will support joint production with the Ukrainian defence industry.

At a press conference at Moncloa Palace, Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said Spain’s total support to Ukraine now reaches €4 billion.

Announcing the package after talks at the Moncloa Palace, Sanchez said Spain would continue supporting Ukraine “for as long as necessary” to achieve a just and lasting peace.

“We cannot deny that the crisis in the Middle East is monopolising conversation and precisely for that reason, I want to say to the government of Ukraine that nothing and no one will make us forget what is happening in Ukraine,” Sanchez added.

Key developments:

• Agreements signed on defence, diplomatic, transport, and financial cooperation.

• Three Ukrainian manufacturers partnered with Sener Aerospace & Defense on missile and air defence projects.

• Focus on joint long-range drone production, ammunition, radars, and equipment.
