Saudi Arabia reserves the right to act militarily against Iran, Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan said on Thursday (19 March), speaking at a news conference in Riyadh following a meeting of regional foreign ministers.

Farhan said trust with Tehran had “been shattered”, accusing Iran of premeditated hostility and support for regional proxies. He added Riyadh still prefers diplomacy but reserves the right to respond if attacks continue.

Air defences intercepted missiles over Riyadh during a regional ministers’ meeting. Authorities said four ballistic missiles were downed, with debris falling near a refinery.

Iran has vowed retaliation after reported strikes on the South Pars gas field, while energy infrastructure across Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the UAE has been targeted, raising concerns over global oil supply disruption.
