Switzerland’s Federal Council has confirmed that exports of war materiel to the United States cannot currently be authorised amid the country’s involvement in the Iran conflict. No new licences have been issued since 28 February, though existing permits remain valid.

An interdepartmental expert group — including the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research (EAER), Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA), and Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sport (DDPS) — will regularly review all relevant exports to ensure compliance with Swiss neutrality law.

Key points:

• Exports of dual-use and military goods under the Goods Control Act, as well as items affected by Iran sanctions, will be regularly assessed.

• Switzerland’s restrictive approach also applies to Israel.

• Previous licences deemed unrelated to the conflict continue to be valid.
