Tens of thousands of Czechs gathered on Saturday (21 March) in Prague for the country’s largest anti-government demonstration since 2019. The protest targeted Prime Minister Andrej Babis’ policies on defense spending and public media.

Organisers estimated around 250,000 attendees at Letna plain, many waving Czech and EU flags. Milion Chvilek (Million Moments for Democracy) said the rally highlighted threats to democracy, rising oligarchic influence, and government measures weakening independent institutions.

Attendees voiced fears over the country’s democratic path, drawing comparisons with Slovakia and Hungary. “We don’t want to be Hungary,” said teacher Hana Malanikova.
