Jeffrey Sachs, economist and Director of the Center for Sustainable Development at Columbia University, has warned of “dramatic instability” in the global system, driven by overlapping geopolitical and economic disruptions.
Speaking at the Center for China and Globalisation Global Dialogue, Sachs said a major structural shift is underway, with China having “matched and in many ways overtaken” the United States in areas such as manufacturing and diplomacy.
He argued this transition reflects a deeper transformation of the international order, describing it as “the end of US-led geopolitics” and, more broadly, Western dominance.
Sachs suggested the shift is not temporary but part of a lasting realignment of global power, with significant implications for international relations, economic competition, and long-term geopolitical stability.
