The European Union has upgraded its strategic partnership with Nigeria, announcing a €290 million Team Europe investment package at the 8th Nigeria-EU Ministerial Dialogue in Abuja.

Co-chaired by Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister, and Kaja Kallas, EU High Representative and Vice-President of the European Commission, the initiative focuses on digitalisation, health, agriculture, and migration management.

Key developments:

• Digital sector: €131m to expand connectivity, deploy 90,000 km of fibre optic cable, and train talent under Nigeria’s 3 million Technical Talent programme.

• Healthcare: €50m credit line to support local production of medicines, vaccines, and diagnostics, enhancing self-sufficiency and industrial growth.

• Agriculture: €86m for sustainable cocoa and dairy value chains, offering financing and technical assistance to farmers and SMEs.

• Migration: €16m to support migrant reintegration, combat human trafficking, and strengthen social services.

Reflecting on the strengthened partnership, High Representative Kaja Kallas said: “Nigeria is a key partner to the European Union, and a strong potential is there also to deepen our cooperation even further.”

Kallas described the visit as the start of an “ambitious upgrade of the EU-Nigeria partnership,” highlighting the shared priority of building resilient, sustainable, and inclusive growth across both nations.
