Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for Xiong’an New Area in North China’s Hebei Province to become a leading innovation hub and model for high-quality development.

During his fourth inspection since 2017, Xi reviewed construction, visited key institutions, and chaired a symposium on the area’s future. The project remains central to efforts to shift non-essential Beijing functions and advance regional integration.

Key developments:

• Over 4,000 Beijing-linked companies and 400 state-owned enterprises have relocated as of 2026

• Launch of an international air cargo terminal with the “NXA” airline code, linking Xiong’an to global logistics networks

• Forest coverage increased from 11% to 35.1%, with biodiversity gains in Baiyangdian wetlands

• New policies aim to attract talent and innovation, alongside 20 public service projects

Authorities position Xiong’an as a smart, green, world-class city within the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei economic cluster.
