Danes are voting in a closely watched general election that could secure a third term for Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, despite declining support for her Social Democrats.
Frederiksen called the early vote amid heightened tensions with US President Donald Trump over Greenland. While the dispute has eased, domestic concerns — including cost-of-living pressures, immigration, and a proposed wealth tax — now dominate the campaign.
Opinion polls suggest the Social Democrats may record their weakest result in decades, with the left bloc projected to fall short of a parliamentary majority. However, Denmark’s system allows minority governments if no majority opposes them.
Frederiksen has emphasised national security and European unity, stating Russia “must not be allowed to win” and reiterating that Greenland “is not for sale”.
