The European Union and Ghana have signed a ‘landmark’ Security and Defence Partnership in Accra, coinciding with the handover of military equipment funded under the European Peace Facility.

The partnership strengthens EU–Ghana cooperation on shared security challenges and establishes an annual Security and Defence Dialogue to guide strategic priorities.

Key developments:

• Addressing regional instability, terrorism, and hybrid threats

• Enhancing maritime security, cybersecurity, and climate-related resilience

• €50 million equipment package supports Ghana Armed Forces’ territorial integrity and regional peace contributions

• Collaboration spans counter-terrorism, conflict prevention, border management, and the Women, Peace and Security agenda

The agreement reinforces a forward-looking framework for political dialogue, operational support, and strategic engagement, marking a new chapter in EU–Ghana relations.
